Welcome to the February 2012 edition of the Bali Dynasty Newsletter.

Lots to share with you this month with some of the Staff and Management recently returning from Perth from our Annual Fundraiser at the Italian Club

We trust you had a good Chinese New Year and Valentines day and in this month’s issue we look ahead to a busy March with Gracie Kelly’s hosting its famous St. Patrick’s Day party at the resort, and Bali in general, preparing for the big Nyepi day celebrations, Bali’s day of silence.

Nyepi Day brings complete Silence to Bali

This year the Balinese will be celebrating Nyepi on Friday, 23 March 2012. The first day of the Caka New Year, also known as Hari Raya Nyepi, is a Day of Complete Silence in Bali. The whole island will be void of people on the street (since it is mandatory for everyone to stay indoors) and there shall be no noise, no lights and no activities in whatsoever form. The whole island of Bali shall appear deserted. This year the Balinese will be celebrating Nyepi on Friday, 23 March 2012.
	The evening before Nyepi on the 22nd of March, traditionally we will make an Ogoh Ogoh (a paper mache statue) in the form of an evil spirit and parade it around the hotel area, just as the Balinese do in their villages to chase away evil spirits from their houses. After the parade the Ogoh Ogoh will be burned at the beach. Before we do that we ask as many hotel guests as possible to dress up in a sarong and head band and help us carry the Ogoh Ogoh.
	Apart from being a lot of fun, it’s a great photo opportunity and a chance be part of the Nyepi tradition. If you are with us at that time we invite you to join us outside the Kertagosa Ballroom at 5pm, where we will dress you up, give you a traditional blessing, an arak to keep the other spirits from harming you and a musical instrument to make as much noise as possible. On the following day, Saturday 24 March, all activities will be back as normal.

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day at Gracie Kelly's

On March 17th we again will celebrate St. Patrick ’s Day, one of the biggest nights of the year in Gracie Kelly’s when everyone and everything turns green. With prizes for the Best Green Outfits, Bartender Show, Drinking Competition and Green Beer and Cocktails on sale with our resident band the Rais Paddies rocking the blarney stone off it’s foundations.

Definitely another great night at Gracie Kelly's you do not want to miss!

Kids Pool Waterslide re-opened today!

We are pleased to announce that the waterslide at the Kids Pool has re-opened today as per schedule.

We continue with the installation of the Kids Water Fun Zone in the kids pool area located next to the kids club which will be completed in early April 2012.

During the finalization of this project the Kids Club and the waterslide will operate as normal.

19th Back to Bali Dynasty Night another great succes

On February 11th at the Italian Club in WA we held our 19th ‘Back to Bali Dynasty’ Party, our biggest Charity Fundraiser of the year!

With resounding support from our travel partners in Perth and Bali including Asia Escape Holidays, Freestyle Holidays, New Horizons, Qantas and Viva who consistently support the event. The night was a great success with just under 300 people enjoying a sumptuous rijstafel prepared by our chef and the team from the Bali Dynasty Resort.
The annual event has been the major fundraiser for the Bali Dynasty Resort Charity Effort which was established in 2000 in conjunction with the East Bali Poverty Project to give hope to over 80 impoverished Children in North Eastern Bali through education.

Everyone was entertained by a Live Band and as always the highlight of the event was the raffle; with over 140 prizes from Bali's local attractions as well as some airline tickets which were donated courtesy of Air Asia (Grand Prize pictured) and Garuda Indonesia.

We would like to thank all of our guests in attendance for your generous support to the Raffle, we raised in excess of AU$6,300 on raffle ticket sales alone!

Gracie Kelly's is a Winner!

The greyhound 'Gracie Kelly's', owned by Graham and Noela Haswell, won the races at the Brisbane Greyhound Club recently followed by another winning race at the Albion Park in Brisbane last Sunday.

She will be racing again on the 5th of March and we have our fingers crossed.

A big thank you goes to Graham and Noela for their support by donating a part of the winning price money towards the Bali Dynasty's charity funds for the East Bali Poverty Project.

Tour of the Month - Bali Adventure

This months tour choice is Bali Adventure Tours that offer Elephant Safaris, White Water rafting, Mountain Cycling and Jungle Trekking.

The operators of Taro Elephant Safari Park, visitors can ride and interact with the elephants, watch an elephant show, watch them paint in their unique style and take in the beautiful landscape of the parks flora and fauna.

Our star performers

Every month we hold a staff gathering, where we celebrate our staff birthdays and present an update on new hotel products and services. Here are our winners in January 2012. These staff members have excelled in their duties and the services offered to our guests. We also have a Guest Nomination Award and this award is chosen by our guests who fill in the guest feedback forms before they check out. This month we are also including our Supervisor of the Quarter
	Our Employee of the Month for 'Front of the House' is WAYAN SUDANA. You will find Wayan working in the rooms. Sudana has been with the Bali Dynasty Resort since 1991 and is married with three children living in Denpasar.
Our Employee of the Month 'Heart of the House' is SITI SUDINAH, or Siti to her friends. She joined the Bali Dynasty Resort in 1991 in the Housekeeping Department and she is the mother of two beautiful children. She says her daugher keeps her busy at home and most Sundays are spent swimming at the beach. Siti enjoys practicing her English with our hotel guests.
	Our Supervisor of the Quarter for the period October to December 2011 was I WAYAN SUMERTA from the Front Office. You may have spoken to Wayan, as he works as one of our telephone operators in the Guest Service Center. Wayan has been with Bali Dynasty since 1998 from Karangasem.
Finally, our Guest Nomination for January 2012 is MADE SUPADMA. Padma works in the Housekeeping department (yes, they have done well in the awards this month!) and has worked in Bali Dynasty since 1991. Made has two children and lives in Denpasar. He enjoys shopping with his children. Congratulations to all our winners!
